Grammar Point:
In Portuguese, time is usually expressed using the verb "ser"(to be).
- É is used for one o'clock: É uma hora. (It is one o'clock.)
- São is used for any other time: São três horas. (It is three o'clock.)
To express minutes, you add with e(and):
- São cinco e vinte. – It is 5:20.
- É uma e quinze. – It is 1:15.
Dates are usually said in the format: day + de + month + de + year
- Hoje é 12 de março de 2024. – Today is March 12, 2024.
Use the verb ser with dates as well: Hoje é segunda-feira. – Today is Monday.
