Grammar Point:
In Portuguese, nouns have gender (masculine or feminine). Most nouns ending in -o are masculine and those ending in -a are feminine.
Articles also change depending on gender and number:
- Singular Masculine: o(e.g., o livro)
- Singular Feminine: a(e.g., a cadeira)
- Plural Masculine: os(e.g., os livros)
- Plural Feminine: as(e.g., as cadeiras)
Examples:
- O aluno escreve no caderno. (The student writes in the notebook.)
- A professora está na sala de aula. (The teacher is in the classroom.)
