Using adjectives to describe clothing:

In Portuguese, adjectives must agree in gender (masculine/feminine) and number (singular/plural) with the noun they describe.

Examples:

  • Uma camisa branca – a white shirt (feminine)

  • Um casaco preto – a black jacket (masculine)

  • As calças azuis – the blue pants (plural)

  • Os vestidos elegantes – the elegant dresses

Note that color adjectives often follow the noun in Portuguese.
