Grammar Point:
Using "is" and "are" in Bengali – Linking Sentence Structure
In Bengali, "is" or "are" is often implied rather than explicitly spoken. For example:
- She is a teacher – সে একজন শিক্ষিকা (Se ekjon shikkhika)
- They are farmers – তারা কৃষক (Tara krishok)
- He is in the office – সে অফিসে আছে (Se ofise achhe)
The verb "আছে" (achhe) is used to indicate location or presence and functions similarly to "is/are" when referring to location.
