Professions and Workplaces পেশা ও কর্মস্থল in Bengali)

Lesson Objective:

By the end of this lesson, learners will be able to identify common professions and workplaces in Bengali and use simple sentences to describe occupations and where people work.

Vocabulary List:

  • Doctor – ডাক্তার (Daktar): A medical professional who treats people

  • Teacher – শিক্ষক/শিক্ষিকা (Shikkhok/Shikkhika): A person who educates students

  • Engineer – প্রকৌশলী (Prokousholi): A person who designs or builds systems or structures

  • Nurse – নার্স (Nars): A healthcare worker who supports doctors and patients

  • Farmer – কৃষক (Krishok): A person who grows crops or raises animals

  • Office – অফিস (Ofis): A place where administrative work is done

  • School – স্কুল (Skul): A place where students learn

  • Hospital – হাসপাতাল (Hashpatal): A medical facility for treatment

  • Farm – খামার (Khamar): A place where farming happens

  • Construction Site – নির্মাণস্থান (Nirmansthan): A place where buildings are being constructed

Grammar Point:

Using "is" and "are" in Bengali – Linking Sentence Structure

In Bengali, "is" or "are" is often implied rather than explicitly spoken. For example:

  • She is a teacher – সে একজন শিক্ষিকা (Se ekjon shikkhika)

  • They are farmers – তারা কৃষক (Tara krishok)

  • He is in the office – সে অফিসে আছে (Se ofise achhe)

The verb "আছে" (achhe) is used to indicate location or presence and functions similarly to "is/are" when referring to location.
